This week in business technology news

Business Business News #1 – Gmail is killing the authentication codes of SMS 2 factors in favor of this instead.

As for the first time reported by Forbes, Gmail is removing two -factor SMS -based certificate codes (2FA) due to security concerns. Google instead will introduce QR codes for certification – which are safer than SMS codes. This change aims to reduce the risk of phishing attacks and SIM exchange. According to Google, the transition will take place over the next few months, and users will need to scan a QR code with their phone to complete the certificate. (Source: PCWorld)

Why this is important to your business:

Once upon a time people withdrew from the use of QR codes. But Covid proved the wrong ones, and now QR codes are being used everywhere. Most customers are familiar with the process and it is interesting that Google considers them safer than SMS 2FA. Will this be the new substitute for SMS 2FA? My Tips: Download an authentication app (like Google Authenticator) and use it, or instead of your current 2FA process. Or use a USB key.

But now I can be able to reject the fraud altogether. We’ll see. I know that many academics in my community – professors, researchers, etc.

Business technology news #3 – This hidden Windows feature protects you from dangerous malware.

Windows has a less popular feature called “network protection” that helps preserve malware. Unlike Smartscreen – which is mainly integrated into Edge –

Network protection works at system level, monitoring network traffic in all applications and processes. Controls Internet data against Microsoft’s reputation database for suspicious and bad content. (Source: PCWorld)

Why this is important to your business:

Important Note: This feature is deactivated by the default and requires Powershell with the rights of the administrator to enable. Avilaablely available only in pro or enterprise versions of Windows 10 or 11, with Microsoft Defender Active and a recorded Microsoft account. To keep your company safety at its highest level, I strongly recommend that your IT firm activate this feature and ensure that it is configuration on all Windows devices.

Business Tech News #4 – SMB’s SMPChat bet is erased – but can it continue the moment?

Snapchat concentration in small and medium -sized businesses (SMBS) is proven successful. The platform has seen a significant increase in advertising income from SMB, thanks to its user -friendly tools and advertising solutions. Smapchat Small Business Snapchat Snapchat has shown why small businesses are an important part of Snapchat’s user base: “We are making extremely large investments in small and medium-sized business space, both in the advertising solutions we offer them and in the way we offer them the right service … when they earn, earn.” The challenge remains to support this moment as competition from other platforms such as Google and Meta intensifies. Snapchat’s ability to renew and adapt will be essential in maintaining its appeal to SMB advertisers. (Source: Digiday)

Why this is important to your business:

It is all about the community. Snapchat users are loyal and are in app all the time. They tend to be torn up, but I know many grandparents who have learned to use the app in order to continue with the family (FWIW my family uses it all the time as a group chat app). This is mainly a B2C game, so if your target customers are customers of end users, it is a great opportunity to consider – and considering that more money is being pushed on the platform that can only be a good sign for users who want to invest their marketing there.

Business Business News #5 – Assistants and he joins the factory floor.

He is increasingly integrating into factory operations, taking on the tasks traditionally performed by people and turning the factory floor. This shift is driven by the need for efficiency and accuracy in production processes. Products such as the Microsoft factory operations agent are specifically created for manufacturers to help trace damaged issues, loss time or excessive energy consumption. Energy systems are being used for predictive maintenance, quality control and optimization of production lines. These advances not only improve productivity but also reduce costs and emissions. Why this is important to your business:

On the floors of my customers, I am seeing autonomous vehicles moving material, driverless forks, drones counting inventory and sensors that monitor the health of their equipment. All of these devices are catching data on people to analyze and act. Next phase – which is just starting – is the establishment of the agents of it to review this data and take actions instead of people doing so. Start thinking about it and ask the hardware, software equipment and vendors if agents are part of their future products plans. Finding good people is difficult. Finding good and capable people is even tougher. Agents will help mitigate these issues.

Weekdo week I collect five important business technology news and act on why they are important to your business – and mine.
