New York, New York – March 01: Gervonta Davis gets a knee in the middle of the ninth round due to … [+]
I scored the scratch Davis vs Lamont Roach Fight eight rounds in four for the latter – and I was not just to believe that the challenger should have been given the victory.
If the right decision were to be made by the judges, Roach would have been a two -divided world champion, and Davis would have his first loss in favor.
That didn’t happen. Instead, the war set up a wholesale draw, and Davis remained the WBA lightweight champion. To make things worse, Judge Steve Willis failed to rule a knock on the ninth round when Davis clearly took a knee after inhaling a punch.
After the war, some current and previous world champions were taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction with Willis’s failure to take a point and judges’ decision.
Current super super weight champion WBA Terrence Crawford said he thought Roach won the war and thought the ninth round situation should have ruled a knackdown. Crawford also showed the situation of Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2001.
Mayweather was fighting Hernandez Carlos and was ruled because his handle touched the mat.
Former World Champion Sergio Mora stated, “Roach won this war !!”
The indisputable champion with many Classa Shields was not held back. She even called the judge’s integrity.
Temporary Temporary WBO Temporary Temporary Arnold Barboza Jr. asked aloud why Davis was not penalized.
Ryan Garcia shouted: “Lamont won it.”
Former lightweight champion Andre Berto says he knows the Internet will have a day in the field with non-knockdown-and he is correct.
Former World Champion Caleb Trux says he does not freely use the word “robbery”, but this decision qualifies.
Finally, Roach defended himself for himself, saying he believed he won the war – with or without it.
What some do not understand is that if Willis had called the knee a knock on the ninth round, Roach would have won the war – even with controversial results. A match should come. Both fighters said they loved it, but we will see what happens.
If Davis chooses to fight someone else instead of Roach in his next period, there will be legal doubts about his success. While Roach boxed beautifully after the Filly shell, accurately opposed and displayed excellent severity, Davis did not look great.
He usually starts slowly, but he fought to find his rhythm. Most of this should be attributed to Roach’s perfection in the ring, but it is difficult not to emphasize the performance less than the stellar David.
At this point, if Davis fought Shakur Stevenson to unify the light titles of WBA and WBC, I would favor Stevenson to win. I would also consider lightweight WBO sample with lightweight kyyshawn Davis more a threat now than I used to.
As for Roach, it’s time for the boxing world – including myself – to make a respect for his name. He boxed beautifully and showed a little more pop than expected. In my eyes, he won the war 116-112. Unfortunately for Roach, my score card doesn’t count.
However, Roach won over the crowd in Brooklyn, and he will undoubtedly get a strong opportunity in his next war. He proved himself to be one of the best fighters in his weight class.
A war with Stevenson or Davis is possible, but I would also like to see what would happen if Roach would move back to 130 and Naoya Inoue came out of 122 pounds to challenge it. In the coming months, we will see how many Roach’s performance has increased his shares.
