Sarasota, Fla. (WWSB) – An Anna Maria Island woman is receiving a great reward for her efforts to relieve hurricanes.
Darcie Duncan with Duncan Real Estate recently was given the Super Bowl Lix ticket in New Orleans.
“I’m a big football jungle and it’s a list of buckets,” Darcie Duncan with Duncan Real Estate said. “I’m really excited about that.”
The Glazer family, owners of Tampa Bay Buccaneers, donating Duncan tickets and recognized her for her extraordinary efforts behind Hellenic hurricanes and Milton.
Duncan, who grew up on Anna Maria Island on the island and now runs a business there, is a victim of storms.
Her home and business received extensive damage from the hurricanes.
Despite this, instead of focusing on herself, she worked to help others.
“The hardest part is to see so many people walking around and they couldn’t talk or work and didn’t know what to do,” Duncan said. “So we said we have to start doing something.”
Duncan came to everyone she knew about help.
She created a new group on Facebook, “Anna Maria Island Hurricane Relief”, and she rose.
“Within a few hours we had a boat after boat with people, bringing supplies, shovels and more,” Duncan said. “I can’t explain how amazing it was.”
The Facebook page withdrew more than 8,000 members and became the central center for sharing vital information about the storm recovery needs.
Duncan also helped activate the Community Center Anna Maria Island (AMI). This was transformed into a major distribution site for supplies, resources and information.
Her efforts did not stop here.
It also helped organize a major community event called rock ‘n’ support of the Hurricane Relief Concert.
It is all these efforts that attracted the attention of the Glazer family.
“We moved so much from its kindness and generosity,” said Kourtney Sanchez, the main impact official, with Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “She did it through her personal loss.”
The Manatee District Chamber of Commerce helped the selection.
Jacki Dezelski, President and CEO, of the room, said Glazer contacted him and asked if they would name someone to the community for the price.
She said she immediately thought of Duncan.
“She’s someone I admire so much,” Dezelski said. “In the face of her personal influence on both home and business, she put into action to help others.”
Duncan is very honored and grateful for honor and tickets.
She says she is also thankful for the support of the community.
“I’m very grateful to everyone,” Duncan said. “Thank you for having our island in our hearts and thanks is all I can say.” In total, the Glazer family recognized three community members for their post -hurricane efforts.
Local chambers of commerce were asked to appoint small businesses owners who went up and further to support the Tampa Bay region behind the hurricanes.
“Our small businesses are essential to what makes this community unique, and we are so inspired by the countless stories of resistance after this destructive Hurricane season,” said the owner / chairman of Buccaraneers Bay Buca Foundation / Chairman Glazer Vision Foundation Darcie Glazer Kassewitz. “These three individuals really went extra miles to help others in a time of need, and my family is honored to give their efforts with these Super Bowl tickets. We are also very grateful to the rooms for sharing these stories and participation in the start of the Glazer’s small business fund. “
All three popular businesses were Tampa Bay Billboard (North Tampa Bay Chamber), Gaston’s cuisine (Tampa Bay’s room) and Duncan Real Estate (Manatee Chamber).
This award follows the start of the Glazer family’s small business fund, a program created to help small businesses in the Tampa Bay and West Central Florida regions affected by the previous Hurricane season.
The Glazer family’s small business fund will donate to the participating rooms that will then distribute individual grants up to 5,000 to hundreds of small businesses that are greatly affected by storms.
Participating rooms that will help manage the program, review applications and help select grant receivers include: Tampa Bay room, Tampa Bay Room, South Tampa Room, St. Petersburg Room, Room of Tampa Bay beaches, Manatee rooms, Greater plant City City rooms and amplify Clearwater. Grants will be distributed through existing non -profit organizations in the rooms.
After the Hellenic hurricane, the Glazer family donated $ 1 million to support local assistance efforts. The family then pledged an additional $ 1 million on October 17 for Hurricane Milton recovery efforts, which serves as the source of funding for the Glazer family’s small business fund.
